Pinching arc plasmas by high-frequency alternating longitudinal magnetic field

Arc plasmas have promising applications in many fields, and exploring their properties is of interest. This research paper presents detailed pressure-based finite volume simulations an argon arc. Simulations the free-burning arc show good agreement with experiment. We observe interesting phenomenon that concentrates intensively a high-frequency alternating longitudinal magnetic field. different from existing constricting mechanisms, as here pinched through continuous dynamic transitions between shrinking expansion. The underlying mechanism via working together arc's motion inertia, applied field able to effectively play “plasma trap” role, which leads plasma be confined narrower space. finding may provide new approach constrict plasmas.
